( wake me up when september ends )
- You've probably heard it many times: over the crystals or in person about people groaning over the events that happen in this world. And honestly? I can't blame them - after all, a lot of the things that happened over the course of a little over a year that I've been here? There's been things that happen that deserve our complaints, our anger. Of course, don't go too overboard with it. I don't want any trouble.
Who am I, you ask? I'm just another journalist here in Verens, another Otherworlder who's been here for months who just wants to share a story and keep you guys thinking.
There is one thing that I've noticed from our stay here, and this is the key to this article: Otherworlder dependence. Not to mention that a lot of crap tends to happen that deal with us, specifically.
Does anybody remember the stolen crystals incident? Where a majority of the people who not only had their crystals stolen, their emotions drained until they were apathetic lumps were Otherworlders? Or the fact that a lot of the time what we hear buzzing through the so-called 'crystal network' is also us?
And I certainly didn't see any non-Otherworlder in Verens deal with a lot of the important shit. And not to mention when things get bad, there's no immediate solution. A lot of the time, things have to get worse until things get better; not to mention that sometimes the effects of some of the stuff happening around here can be really subtle to the point where it's not easily noticeable. Trust me.
I was told to focus on negativity, since that's the theme for the month. But I didn't want to write something that didn't end on a good note, either. That's just not how humans work and I doubt anybody would want to live their lives just feeling upset, envious, full of hatred or anger all the time. Unless that's your thing, then absolutely go ahead. But what I'm trying to get at here might already be obvious already, but it bears repeating: if anything, we are here to assist the world in getting back up on its feet. Maybe some of you want to think that we're playing heroes, trying to save a dying world.
It's not that easy.
Even if we do come up with a solution to save it, figure out a way to potentially go home without losing our memories - or I guess, have those who want to stay, stay, for whatever reason they might have - that won't mean a damn thing if the people who live here fall back to old habits and mess things up again, rinse and repeat. We can't have the world rely on us, and we honestly shouldn't have to.
But anyway, what do you guys think about the situation between us, the Otherworlders and everyone else? I'd like to hear your thoughts, good or bad. Just send a message to Inaba Himeko, and I'll reply back to you as soon as I can. You might even be in the next issue!
